Somerset House launches a summer of scents

Somerset House has launched its brand new exhibition for the summer, celebrating fragrances. Perfume: A Sensory Journey Through Contemporary Scent’s launch was attended by over 300 guests as they welcomed a multi-sensory exhibit that is available for corporate and private events who want to push the boundaries of perfumery.

Exploring the new experiences of contemporary scents as well as meet the perfumers who created them, conventions were challenged as visitors were invited to try experimental perfumes such as the water park-themed ‘Dark Ride’ by Killian Wells and the more adult-themed ‘Bad Taste’, which aimed to recreate more intimate aromas.

Guests were offered an array of food from stalls featuring sourdough pizzas with traditional toppings, exotic Middle Eastern falafel, locally sourced Chicken Asado wraps and homemade artisan gelato and sorbet. A fully functioning perfume laboratory was also unveiled on the night, allowing guests to see in close detail the skill and science involved in the process and have the opportunity to try their hand at perfumery themselves, something that will continue to be offered to corporate guests over the summer months.

“It was a fantastic evening and delightful to see how guests really involved themselves with each scent and were interested in developing ideas of what each scent could mean, challenging themselves to new ideas,” said Jenny Freestone, head of corporate events for Somerset House Trust. “As the home of contemporary culture, this exhibition at Somerset House provides an excellent offering for corporate and private events, allowing clients a private viewing experience with a difference.

“We look forward to welcoming guests throughout the summer.”
