The colour you should wear for a successful interview

’Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society’ – Mark Twain

Dress to impress – so the saying goes. So, are there any secrets for what to wear for a job interview or a first date? You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

According to a recent survey, there’s one colour that comes out comfortably on top for confidence levels and attractiveness.

That colour is black.

In a study, titled ‘The Perception of Colour’ surveying 1,000 people, 48% of women and 64% of men thought black was a colour of confidence. Not only that, most people also thought it the most attractive colour worn by the opposite sex.

Men and women also both had red and blue as their second and third choices. Although, it’s worth noting, red was also considered the most arrogant colour.

So, if black is a recipe for success, what shades should you avoid?

Only 2% of women and 6% of men thought it was a good idea to wear orange and just 5% of people were keen on brown, ever. Oh, and only 5% of respondents thought intelligent people would wear pink. Yes really.

Of course, if you are in the minority and you love colour, that confidence will shine through, but maybe tone it down until you land the job you’ve applied for.
