Online tool helps monitor business travel

If you have to chart your boss’s business travel spending down to the smallest detail, you’ll be aware of how difficult it can be to keep track of distances driven and monitor the costs involved.

The AA’s route planner has launched a new online tool to overcome this problem: a calculator that can help PAs keep expense claims on track by providing accurate figures for mileage.

As companies increasingly crack down on costs and fuel prices fluctuate, one in two drivers admits that they think their claims are wrong, making it even harder for those in the office managing the expenses.

To use the planner, enter the route driven including the return journey and the company-approved expense per mile. It will automatically calculate the overall mileage and claim amount. Multiple routes can be calculated, combined and even printed off for your records.

You can also add the cost per litre and the average mile per gallon to the website to calculate the fuel cost for a journey – making expense claims one less thing to worry about when your boss is on the road.
