Charity partner profile: Michael McGrath, Founder of The Muscle Help Foundation

Michael McGrath is a leading inspirational speaker, record-breaking polar adventurer, multi award-winning charity founder and disability role model – a catalyst for change in the organisations he works with.

His ability to engage emotionally and intellectually with audiences from business and education will inspire, motivate and transform the way people think and act.

Michael has been named as one of Britain’s most influential disabled people – Power 100, 2017 & 2016.

After being diagnosed with the muscle wasting disease Muscular Dystrophy (MD) aged just 18 in 1984, Michael made history 20 years later by becoming the first disabled person to lead expeditions to the North and South Poles.

The journey gave rise to a new life plan, inspiring Michael to embark on a career as an internationally recognised motivational business speaker. He has built an enviable list of clients, providing carefully tailored speeches for both private and public sector organisations. Recent clients include Roche Pharmaceuticals, HMRC and the UK’s leading professional body for executive and personal assistants, the EPAA, where he delivered the keynote address at their first ever conference dedicated to EAs, PAs and secretaries across the UK banking and financial sector hosted by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Here’s a glowing testimonial from Victoria Darragh, Founder and CEO of the EPAA:

And another from Nilmini Francis, EA to the CEO at Enclude, who attended the EPAA Conference:

Leadership, courage and trust combined with resolute self-belief, confidence, teamwork and a singularly focused obsession towards achieving desired outcomes were critical success factors – Michael draws on these experiences, giving wider business and life lessons.

Michael also used his Arctic adventures as a launch pad for The Muscle Help Foundation (MHF), a national family charity that delivers transformational experiences called Muscle Dreams for children and young people with MD.

Michael continues to receive recognition and awards for his work in business, his charity and his record-breaking polar adventures. Recent media and accolades include:

  • 2017 – Featured in The Guardian weekend magazine supplement (17 March) – view HERE – in the broadsheets ‘Experience’ (Life & Style) section.
  • In addition, Michael was featured in the Power 100 listing (2017 & 2016) recognising Britain’s most influential people with a disability.

Michael and The Muscle Help Foundation are official charity partners of the PA Life Summit, which takes place from 24-25 April at De Vere Wokefield Estate. Attendees will have the chance to hear Michael’s story first hand during an inspirational session.
