4 ways to stay productive with wearable technology

Wearable technology

Wearable technology is a hot topic this year, with seemingly every company under the sun releasing new โ€œmust-haveโ€ devices. But these pieces of kit offer more than just a way to make your friends envious. Wearable tech news site Wareable found out four ways tools such as smartwatches can help you be more productive.

Communication
Smartwatches from the likes of Apple and Samsung allow you to view messages with a tap โ€“ much faster and more discreet than searching for your phone in the middle of a meeting or when youโ€™re standing in a queue waiting for coffee. Productivity app Slack also offers support for Apple Watch, which lets you programme replies into your device so you can reply hassle-free and keep track of whatโ€™s going on with a project while youโ€™re on the go.

Expense management
Virtual assistants and PAs who handle their companyโ€™s expenses will find Billings Pro on the Apple Watch especially useful. You can use your wearable to track time, mileage and expenses on the go, adding entries on the spot so you donโ€™t forget anything.

To-do lists and deadlines
To-do lists help you keep on top of what you need to do every day, but wearable technology takes that to the next level. Mobile apps such as Wunderlist now support smartwatches, allowing you to check your lists. It also sends alerts if a deadline is approaching or you havenโ€™t completed a task.

Meanwhile, Trello on Apple Watch and Android Wear lets you create and track deadlines and tasks, and sends you reminders. You can also add labels to notes and leave comments for other users.

Notes
Paper and pen is on the way out thanks to smartphones, and now wearable technology is making things even easier for busy professionals. Evernote offers smartwatch support so you can dictate new notes, use a voice search to find files and set up reminders.
