Breakfast could be the key to success

Skipping breakfast is stopping the UK from reaching its potential, according to a new report by AXA PPP Healthcare.

Following figures revealing that less than three in five Brits eat breakfast each day, healthcare specialists are reminding the public that a greater focus on eating at the right times could be key to personal success. With links to poor concentration, delayed reaction times and a negative effect on memory, missing breakfast could be seriously affecting the working world.

Starting the day off right with a good breakfast is particularly important for tennis champion Andy Murray and entrepreneur Richard Branson, who have been cited as key examples of healthy eaters at the top of their game. AXA PPP Healthcare is reminding people that as our blood sugar levels are at their lowest when we wake up, a good morning meal is vital for giving us the strength to carry us through, naming slow release carbs and protein as the top breakfast food groups.

“Breakfast could be a poached egg on wholegrain toast with some fruit juice, or low fat yogurt with chopped fruit and oat granola,” said Dr Chris Tomkins, Chief Operating Officer at AXA PPP Healthcare, who advised to avoid eating meals after 6.30pm to avoid being too full in the morning.

“Being self-employed and running your own business takes a lot of energy and pace,” he concluded. “Starting the day with a nutritious breakfast can really set you and your team up for the day.”
