Business travellers are spending more time than ever away from their families

Tips to avoid business trip disasters from beTravelwise

A new report into business travel across the UK has revealed that British workers are spending more time than ever away from home on business, with one in three business travellers spending up to an entire month away from home every year without seeing friends or family.

The survey conducted by exclusive new accommodation brand CitySuites also showed that the majority, 63%, never have their family come to stay with them when they are away on business, despite 65% of those respondents saying they’d like to have the opportunity for them to join them at evenings and weekends.

Almost half (49%) of business travellers admitted they miss their family more than anything while away on business, while 16% instead longed for their own home comforts and 9% for their friends. 4% said they missed their pet the most.

While UK workers are traditionally on the clock for an average of 36.5 hours a week – compared to 35 hours in France (Europe’s shortest) and 42 in Greece (the longest), it’s clear that more of us than ever before are constantly on the move.

CitySuites, which is set to launch its first residence aimed at business travellers in Manchester in January 2017, aims to revolutionise the current accommodation available to the corporate and residential market. By delivering properties that are more liveable than hotels, more personal than serviced apartments and more desirable than any other apartment, CitySuites is designed to feel like a home; a place where family and friends are always welcome.

Gavin Bailey, CitySuites Operations Director said: “Being away from home for a long time is never easy, and it’s clear more of us than ever before are working on the road.

“As our research shows travellers long to be able to host their families and friends yet neither the hotel nor the serviced apartments market offer the flexibility, facilities and space needed.

“In an age of unparalleled connectivity it’s easy to stay in touch but spending real quality time with loved ones is what our guests are crying out for.”

The first images of the CitySuites were recently released, showing the 17-storey building featuring a range of studios, one and two-bedroom apartments available for guests to stay on a short-term basis, from as little as a week, with options up to 12 months and beyond. This flexibility is ideal for those working on a project basis or while relocating.

CitySuites also includes a number of residential ‘super suites’ on the top floors. Apartments are designed to deliver the space and facilities for guests to work, cook for family and friends, or simply relax on their sofa watching a movie or Sky Sports. This is coupled with hotel facilities including a pool, on-site gym, valet parking and fully manned reception. CitySuites caters for every need of the modern business traveller and city-centre resident.
