Davy’s opens The Tappit Hen in City of London

Davy’s has opened the Tappit Hen, a 3,680 sq. ft. wine bar and restaurant located in the heart of the City.

The venue which takes its name from a traditional 2.1 litre Port bottle, is situated at 21-23 St Swithins Lane – minutes away from Bank station – and was once home to the UK cellars of the Port house, Sandeman.

Set over two floors, it comprises a ground floor bar with seating for 60 people, a 50-cover restaurant in the cellars and two private dining rooms for up to 24 people.

Mixing traditional and contemporary design, the Tappit Hen uses Sandeman’s Port barrel staves for banquet seating and the finest quality Portuguese cork for the bar front. It features lighting made from original Tappit Hens of Sandeman 1955, which have been lying undisturbed in the Davy cellars for over 60 years – 1955 was the last vintage to be bottled at the St. Swithins Lane address.

The ground floor bar is the ideal place to explore the Tappit Hen’s extensive drinks list which features wines exclusively available to Davy’s. The menu also includes a by-the-glass selection using a wine preservation system and Coravin.

The Tappit Hen also celebrates its heritage by presenting one of the most diverse selection of port and fortified wines in the City.  Cocktails are also available with the White Port and tonic serve a firm favourite.

The restaurant’s a la carte menu changes monthly and presents modern British dishes using seasonal, quality ingredients sourced locally.

The menu includes sharing plates, starters and mains, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A separate bar and private dining offerings are also available.

The venue has also launched a weekly Wednesday Steak Night offering and organises regular consumer tastings and events. It is also available for private hire as its two versatile private dining rooms offer atmospheric areas for a wide range of functions from dinners, tastings to presentations.

The two private rooms offer extra versatility and useful spaces for anything from a dance floor, to break-out or lounge area. Each area can be re-set for an evening reception.
