Facebook at Work set to launch in London

Facebook at Work set to launch in London in October

Rumour has it Facebook will officially launch its newest platform, Facebook at Work, at an event in London on 10 October.

TechCrunch reports that an invitation confirms this date, which marks the first time Facebook has launched a product outside of the US. The new business version of the popular social media site was developed at Facebook’s London office and entered beta testing at companies across Europe, including Royal Bank of Scotland.

The product was officially announced last year as a competitor to other in-house networking platforms such as Microsoft’s Yammer. Businesses sign up to allow staff members to create their own profile, which is completely separate from their personal account. They can then use this profile to connect with their colleagues, share updates and communicate through a mobile app with group chats or video calls.

It’s a revolution in business communication, giving colleagues a familiar interface with which to share ideas, get instant feedback from their team and collaborate to maintain productivity. There’s no word yet on how much Facebook at Work will cost companies, if Facebook decides to charge at all.
