Volkswagen reinvents Transporter van as mobile office

The Volkswagen T6 mobile office

Car manufacturer Volkswagen has reimagined its Transporter vans as a mobile office in the wake of a survey it conducted into the importance of commercial vehicles to the UK’s small businesses.

According to Auto Express, there are two types of VW Transporter conversions using the new T6 model. One is designed as a “creative hub” and has been fitted with grass-effect carpeting, whiteboards and beanbags in an effort to encourage the sharing of ideas.

The other has been called the “Power Office” and contains typical office features – pictures of a city skyline, leather chairs and a wooden desk.

Volkswagen’s survey reveals that there are expected to be 11.7 million start-up businesses by 2017, with 3.4 million pop-up experiences. Self-employment levels have risen by 17.9% since 2009. The use of commercial vehicles has increased by 400% over the same period and van-dependent businesses bring £120 billion to the UK economy.
