Checking out venues for your company Christmas party? Top Banana has it covered

Tips from Top Banana for going on a recce at an event venue

Checking out potential venues for your company Christmas party before you book it is a must. But what should you be looking out for? Follow Top Banana’s venue recce guide and you won’t leave a stone unturned.

1 Before you arrive
Be mindful of the journey you take to get to each venue you look at. The last thing you want is people frustrated by a long or difficult journey before they even arrive.

2 See the space
You need to see, in detail, the space you are looking to book in order to be sure it works. Be clear about this when you book the appointment.

3 Pre, post and during event space
Remember that guests may need somewhere to gather before, during, or after an event – make sure pre-dinner drinks or fringe meetings are planned for.

4 Make the space your own
Always find out about options to theme the space to wow your attendees, as well as any limitations to what can be brought in.

5 Meet the staff
It’s best if the person you meet with for the recce will be the person managing your event on the day. This way information won’t get lost in translation and you’ll know if you’re in good hands.

6 Road test the kitchen
Even if it’s just a club sandwich, you’ll get a feel for the quality of the ingredients, food presentation and service.

7 Connectivity (at a cost!)
The last thing you need is a room full of professionals who can’t access their emails! Check out wifi costs too.

8 AV and event technology
Whether you’re looking to use theirs or need to bring in your own, find out the full spec and road test your content ahead of the event.

9 Maximise added value
The recce is a great time to drive the best bargain you can. Discuss added value opportunities and try to get it thrown in for free.

10 Put it in writing
After your recce meeting, if you like what you’ve seen and want to go forward put all you’ve agreed in writing for them to respond and confirm.

If you’d rather leave all the leg work to someone else, contact the Top Banana venues team for a free cradle to grave venues service – they’ve got it covered.
