The Meetings Show Tomorrow’s Talent Winner spotlight: Ben Rands, OMFIF

The Meetings Show recently announced the winners of its Tomorrow’s Talent competition, an initiative which aims to champion talented newcomers to the industry and provide a platform for nurturing, mentoring and supporting the industry leaders of the future.

Over the coming days, PA Life will throw the spotlight on each of the winners, starting with Ben Rands…

A resolute team player, Ben Rands is director of events at OMFIF (Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum). Ben joined the business as a meeting coordinator in 2018 from the University of Brighton, where he graduated with a first in International Event Management, and worked his way up.

What does it mean to be a Tomorrow’s Talent winnner?
It has been an honour to lead the OMFIF events team through this difficult time, this is a collective achievement, and it is great to be recognised by industry leaders. So, thank you to the Tomorrow’s Talent judges for choosing me and to The Meetings Show for running the award.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced this past year, with regards to your career?
Throughout the pandemic OMFIF has been able to continue to produce events by adapting the portfolio online, but in hosting them virtually the thing we missed most was the collective euphoria afterwards, the aching knees, the feeling of exhaustion and, most importantly, the overwhelming pride from executing a successful event. That feeling motivates us and drives us on and it’s almost impossible to replicate when you’re working remotely. So, the big challenge was to find new forms of motivation.

What do you love most about working in the meetings and events industry?
That post-event buzz and celebrating with the team.

The Meetings Show takes place on September 30th and October 1st at ExCeL London. To find out more and register to attend, click here.
