65% of workers say appreciation is a key trait for UK bosses

A simple ‘thank you’ for a job well done can go a long way for UK workers, according to research marking the launch of the One4all Spotlight Awards.

In fact, 83% of UK workers said being regularly thanked by an employer increases the sense of loyalty they feel to their company.

Meanwhile, 65% stated that being grateful and showing appreciation for staff’s efforts was a key trait for their employer.

The research found that being thanked by employers for a job well done more often would increase the morale of more than 1 in 5 (21%) workers, while a similar number (20%) said increased recognition from their boss for their work and the contributions they make would also make them happier in the workplace.

However, UK bosses seem to be failing to thank their staff for their efforts as 77% of workers said they do not receive a regular thank you from their boss.

Alan Smith, UK Managing Director at One4all Rewards, said: “Looking at the data, It’s clear to see that even simply thanking staff verbally for their work has a huge impact on employees’ morale and sense of loyalty.

“While tangible tokens of gratitude such as bonuses and rewards will always be gratefully received by staff, there are other things businesses which don’t have the budget for this can do to express their thanks. Verbally thanking employees can often be overlooked by some employers, whose time is consumed with growing the business and managing the business day-to-day but our research proves that it can be highly effective way of recognising the efforts put in by individuals and team members on a regular basis.

“The Spotlight Awards provides UK businesses with the opportunity to nominate and reward their exceptional staff, free of charge.”

The One4all Spotlight Awards is a free to enter awards scheme that recognises the best employees in 28 different categories, including Employee of the Year awards across 11 industry sectors such as Tourism & Leisure Employee of the Year, Catering Employee of the Year and Retail Employee of the Year, to name just a few.

Deadline for nominations has now been extended until Friday 13th July 2018.
