How to boost your creativity and come up with new ideas

Tips to boost your creativity

Inspiration comes in many forms, and it’s an essential part of coming up with new ideas for business. As a PA who’s put in charge of big company projects, it can be hard to find inspiration. Here are a few things you can do in and out of the office to boost your creativity.

Brainstorm
Hold a brainstorming session with your team members so everyone can share their ideas. A good leader will really listen to what the team is saying, too, so don’t just have this meeting for show – take on these ideas and utilise everyone’s creativity.

Go for a walk
When I’m stuck for ideas, I like to go for a long walk. Choose a route that you’re familiar with so you don’t have to think about where you’re going and can let your mind focus on the problem at hand. If you can add a bit of background music to the walk, that’s all the better for getting the creative juices flowing. Better yet, get your whole team out during the work day to get some fresh air and talk things out during a group walk.

Colour
We’re big fans of adult colouring books here at PA Life. They’re a great tool for mindfulness, especially if you can use them during your train ride home. They allow you to block out everything else and focus on one thing at a time.

Meditate
You don’t have to be an expert to meditate. Sometimes simply zoning out in a quiet room is enough to help me come up with some new ideas. Creativity can strike at your calmest moments.

People watch
Take a moment to observe other people, either in your office or while you’re out in public. I love people watching when I’m in a creativity rut; my brain makes connections it probably wouldn’t do otherwise based on something as simple as a person’s t-shirt, allowing me to put things into perspective.
