The Institute of Administrative Management (IAM) hosted its first networking event of 2016 this week at Londonโ€™s Hippodrome Casino, with Lindsay Taylor of Your Excellency as a guest speaker.

Existing IAM members and guests gathered in the venueโ€™s Heliot Lounge, where the Hippodrome kindly provided wine and drinks for pre-event networking.

IAM General Manager Jane Pangbourne then took the stage to talk about the organisation, which relaunched in 2014 following its acquisition by Industry Qualifications. Jane started at the IAM earlier this year and has started on her mission to re-engage with existing members, as well as entice new ones.

Jane said the aim of the IAM is to provide members with a range of benefits, including networking opportunities, CPD events and qualifications, training and the ability to work with the IAM as a contributor. โ€œThe team is now more accessible to all to provide improved customer service,โ€ Jane comments. โ€œWeโ€™re here to listen.โ€

Next, Lindsay Taylor presented her HELLO strategy to networking, giving attendees fantastic tips for getting the most out of a chance to meet other professionals at events. Her techniques cover everything from conquering pre-event nerves, overcoming the fear of talking to new people and setting out expectations for yourself so you know what you want to achieve by networking.

Lindsay offers this topic, among others, as courses through Your Excellency, a training company devoted to personal and organisational development for PAs, EAs and other admin professionals.

The night ended with a chance to put Lindsayโ€™s tips into practice over more drinks and delicious nibbles provided by The Hippodrome Casino. Attendees were also offered complimentary professional pictures by The Headshot Guy to help them make their social media profiles shine.
