One for the boss: 6 ways to get employees outside

Employees outside

There’s still plenty of time to enjoy the warm summer weather. It’s the perfect opportunity for businesses to get their employees out of the office into the sunshine, so here are six ways to get the team outside.

1 Volunteer as a team
Rather than a traditional team-building activity, why not get employees involved in a volunteering project, such as cleaning up the local area, helping the needy, or simply hitting the streets to raise money for charity?

2 Play sports
Put together an team for their chosen sport and get a neighbouring company or employees from another office to do the same. Then plan a game where everyone not playing can come along to cheer on their colleagues. You could also go down the nostalgia route and host a sports day just like your school days, with fun activities that everyone can do.

4 Walk to lunch
Have everyone take their lunch at the same time so you can all go for a walk to a nearby café or restaurant for a team meal. Alternatively, you can split everybody into groups to go on different days so the office isn’t left unattended.

5 Meet outside
Employees find it hard to stay motivated and focused when the weather is so glorious, so try to have company meetings outside when the sun is out. It gives the team a break from the monotony of the office – and a bit of vitamin D. You might also want to consider allowing staff to work outside if they have the proper equipment.

6 Offer an early finish
This may seem counterproductive, but treating your staff to the odd early finish to give them time to enjoy the sunshine can provide excellent return on investment. Happy employees are productive ones, after all.
