If you’ve ever been passed up for a promotion that should’ve been yours or a colleague has disrespected you unduly, it can be difficult to recover. Luckily, Fast Company came up with four brilliant ways you can bounce back after unfair treatment.

1 Don’t jump to conclusions
Before you decide how to act following unfair treatment, ask an outside party for their advice and perspective on the situation. It could be that you’ve jumped to conclusions and have taken something completely out of context. Plus, having somebody to confide in can help you find the strength to move on.

2 Be the bigger person
Whatever you do, don’t stoop to the same level as the person who has treated you unfairly. Take the moral high ground and stay there – don’t resort to anger, or you might say something you’ll regret.

3 Look for the good
Even when your job is getting you down, you have to think of everything good about it to stay positive. As a victim of unfair treatment, it’s important to remember that this negative situation doesn’t necessarily mean the better aspects will change.

4 Forgive
This relates to point two; be the bigger person and forgive whoever is responsible for the unfair treatment. Research shows forgiveness is good for mental health and it can help you stay resilient in the face of adversity.
