Ah ha! Norwich revealed to have the UK’s worst bosses

Norwich, the home of Alan Partridge, who famously puts his personal assistant Lynn through hell, has been revealed as the bad boss capital of the UK, in a nationwide poll.

The study revealed that a staggering 42 percent of Norwich workers have worked for a boss from hell, compared to a national average of 29 percent.

Leeds came second in the worst boss stakes (39 percent), followed by Bristol (36 percent), Stoke-on-Trent (35 percent), Cambridge (31 percent) and Cardiff (30 percent).

And so bad are the bosses in Norwich, that almost half (49 percent) of workers there have left a job solely because they just couldn’t stand working for their manager anymore.

While 16 percent claim to have worked for someone who was like a real-life David Brent.

The study, by self-employment technology specialist, Wise, found that overall, 44 percent of Brits say they’ve worked for senior managers who were bad at their jobs.

The impact of bad management can be serious, with a third (33 percent) of UK workers believing a toxic boss can make you perform poorly at work, and 31 percent agreeing that people don’t leave jobs, they leave bosses.

But it seems that the days of having a manager could be numbered, as 35 percent of respondents aged 18 to 25 said they could never see themselves answering to a boss for the rest of their lives, with 46 percent believing the hierarchical structure of a traditional office is old-fashioned and outdated.

The study found that 35 percent of the younger generation have started their own business, while half (50 percent) have vowed to work for themselves as soon as possible.

As many 42 percent of Brits aged 18 to 25 believe the only way to find fulfilment in your career is to start up your own company and be your own boss.

The research also reveals that 44 percent of those polled admit life is too short not to follow your dreams of running your own empire, while three in ten (30 percent) said that running their own company was the only way they’d find fulfillment in work.
