Are you drinking enough water? One in 10 adults claim they’re ‘too busy’ to

More than one in 10 adults claim they’re ‘too busy’ to drink more water.

A study of 2,000 Brits revealed they drink an average of five glasses of water a day – but 28 per cent said they don’t always remember to stay hydrated.

It also emerged that disliking the taste could be among the reasons the nation aren’t topping up their water intake – as a fifth admitted they aren’t keen on the taste of water from the tap.

But in a bid to keep on top of how much they drink, 15 per cent of those polled by evian will track their water intake via an app.

And one in 10 stick to good, old fashioned pen and paper and write down their daily consumption.

Presenter, DJ and empowerment coach, Ashley James, who is working with evian, said: “Drinking water and ensuring I’m properly hydrated has been a real focus for me.

“Whether I’m working, doing a workout or preparing for motherhood, I always make sure to have a bottle of water nearby.

“It’s a small thing, but it makes a huge difference to how I feel – which is more important than ever in times like these.”

The study also found that despite millions of Brits getting distracted and not drinking more water, they report a number of benefits on the days they do drink more.

More than a quarter of respondents find they have much clearer skin on the days they have more H2O.

Almost a quarter (23 per cent) feel less hungry and four in 10 feel more refreshed on the days they consume more water.

The research, conducted via OnePoll, also examined the hydration habits of Brits as a result of coronavirus and being stuck at home.

Of those who have worked from home, 36 per cent said that they had been drinking more water as a result.

And more than a third said this is a habit they’d like to continue in the future.

Ashley James’ top tips for staying hydrated:

1)     Start your day right: Grab a glass of water as soon as you wake up. Remember, we’re advised to drink between six-eight glasses of fluids a day.
2)     Hold a bottle close: Always keep a bottle of water with you during the day so you have the means to stay hydrated at all times, be it at home, on the move or at work.
3)     Track your hydration: There are so many ways to monitor and track how much fluid you are drinking including apps and water vessels with measurements. There is no excuse to forget.
4)     Establish a routine: A busy day can often mean forgetting to stay hydrated. Get round this by drinking on a schedule, at times that suit you.
5)     Drink water with every meal: Ensure you have a glass of water when eating every meal, whether at home or out at a restaurant.
