What’s on your mind when you wake up?

If work is the first thing on your mind when you wake each morning, you’re not alone, according to new research.

The weather and money worries are also on our minds, along with checking social media and ‘group chat’.

It also emerged that Brits stir from their sleep ahead of the alarm due to worrying about work at least twice a week. And despite being a nation of early risers – getting out of bed on average at 6.16am during the week – it takes 29 minutes before we feel fully awake and ready to start the day.

The average adult also takes 62 minutes to get ready and, as a result, 36 per cent of us feel rushed, while two in five admit they don’t take care of themselves, skipping breakfast and exercise.

A spokesperson for The New York Bakery Co, which commissioned the study, said: “Mornings can be a hectic time, especially with pressures hitting us first thing, such as getting the kids ready for school or making it to work on time.”

Breakfast is the most neglected meal of the day, with seven in 10 Brits dedicating more care to lunch and dinner. And more than one in 10 admit they don’t have time for breakfast at all.
